What Happens to Your Sprinkler System Over a Mid-Valley Winter
Salem, United States – April 10, 2026 / Everbearing Services /
Most homeowners don’t know their sprinkler system has a problem until the lawn shows it. They notice brown patches where the grass should be green, soggy spots that never dry out, and skyrocketing water bills with no clear explanation.

Sprinkler problems are hard to spot because from the outside, everything looks fine. Freeze-thaw cycles can cause sprinkler heads to shift out of position. Winter weather can cause pipes to crack without leaving any visible sign above ground. Zones that worked fine last fall can end up spraying the wrong areas entirely. The only way to know is to have someone evaluate the system before the growing season starts.
Gary Neuschwander, founder of Noosh Stump Removal & Landscape Restoration, sees it every year.
“Homeowners assume their sprinklers are fine because water comes out,” Neuschwander said. “They don’t realize half the yard is getting twice what it needs and the other half is barely wet. By the time it shows, they’re replacing turf instead of adjusting heads.”

A sprinkler assessment can reveal underground leaks, valves that don’t open and close the way they should, and water pressure problems that cause uneven turf. The controller schedule may still be set for last fall. Many issues are fixable once someone knows where to look.
Noosh will be at the 2026 Spring NW Living + Outdoor Show at the Linn County Expo in Albany at booths 711 and 712. Show attendees get $100 off a spring sprinkler assessment.
The show runs Friday, April 24 from 2–8 p.m., Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and Sunday, April 26 from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
